Jenny from early teens grew up helping her family retail fabric shop which shaped their passion for textile and fashion. Jenny, the eldest child of the six children, had always been inspired by Audrey Hepburn and all the beautiful gowns from the fifties and sixties. She is all about glitz and glam and is the talented stylist for our window displays and mannequins around the store. Jenny has a passion and an eye for artisan fabrics with intricate bead work and natural fibers.
In a world where fabrics are mass produced to keep up with the seemingly never-ending demand for newness, some of us still have a deep love and respect for the craftsmanship of the past. This is how Saigon Fabrics began and it’s how we remain – driven by the details.
My name is Jenny Lam and I run Saigon Fabrics – the business my parents founded back in 1983. The name is a nostalgic and loving reference for me, as I was born in Saigon, Vietnam. Growing up in Australia, my parents’ fabric store was always a part of my life, and I developed a strong passion for exquisite and delicate textiles. It’s an honour for me to continue my parents’ incredible work.
Upon taking over the store and bringing Saigon Fabrics to an entirely new generation, I applied my talents to source the finest fabrics from Paris – Europe’s fashion capital – to offer an unparalleled range of exclusive bridal dress fabrics, sewing fabrics, fabrics for mother of the bride and groom, bridesmaids, evening wear and more.
Today, Saigon Fabrics caters to a wide clientele, including designers involved in the arts and fashion (costumiers, film, TV and theatre), dressmakers and couturiers, and of course – you! I understand how challenging it can be to make choices when it comes to fabric for a wedding dress, which is why I offer invaluable, expert advice with creating the most dream-worthy garment.
I love my job. I’ve been doing this for over thirty years now and I still look forward to getting up each morning for work. To be honest, it’s more of a passion than a job. It’s a way of life, which I feel incredibly fortunate to have. Every day I revel in returning to our store and peeling back layers of the latest fabric reels from Europe. Once this is done, I take my time creating beautiful displays of materials that I can’t wait to share with my clients.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well, if that’s true, I truly hope you behold our beautiful fabrics and are as inspired as I was as a little girl to begin a lifetime of collecting couture materials to create elegant garments.
Are you ready to step inside this world of fantasy? Opulent and luxurious, I showcase one-of-a-kind wedding dress fabrics used by high-end designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and Valentino. Whether it’s for your wedding, the wedding of your son or daughter or a glamorous evening event, exude effortless, feminine elegance in our breathtaking fabrics. All of the materials are made refined and sophisticated with their intricate details, feather embellishments and bold pops of colour that will make a stylish and signature statement.
Balancing powerful motifs and glitzy details with delicate and demure softness, you’ll add some effortless glamour and decadence to your most coveted looks with our luxurious wedding gown lace and fabric collection. Expert artistry and craftsmanship remain front and centre with all our pieces, but at the core of all I do is a love for high fashion. After all, isn’t that what your big day should be all about?
Creating something beautiful takes time. This is especially the case for wedding fabric for the bride and mother of the bride and groom – but it’s always worth the wait. With over 30 years of experience, Saigon Fabrics has had the privilege in developing close relationships with talented local designers.
Through our conversations with you, we’ll connect you with a suitable designer to suit your style, personality and location. From draping to drafting and onto designers, we break down the Saigon Fabrics process.
It all begins with the draping process. Here, we play with colours that will suit your skin tone and the wedding theme. We combine these with fabric textures and the style that would best accentuate your silhouettes.
We then draft a sketch of the design with a detailed explanation. We can assist with the design, styling and meterage, as well as choosing the perfect fabrics for your garment. You can even finalise on the day – we can connect you to a designer and you can go to them with your package.
Once we’ve decided on the fabric, we’ll work out the necessary measurements to make the complete piece. Please see more details below on our price range.
If you have a designer in mind before you come to us, that’s great. But if not, don’t worry – we have a vast array of talented designers in our network that would suit your location, personality and budget.
Sound simple? It really is! Just remember to book at least six months ahead to save your spot with the designer. Remember, great things come to those who wait.
Our fabric collection is often handcrafted. Many of our fabrics are embroidered and beaded along with tweeds and jacquards. All are purchased from couture fabric houses in Europe. The result? An emporium of rich, luxury fabrics. The more intricate and detailed they are, the more this will be reflected in the price.
